Risks & Rewards Playtest from Paizo: Now Available on the Pathfinder 2e NEXUS!

Risks & Rewards Playtest Has Arrived!

Risk is an integral part of every exciting adventure. Do you open that next door in the dungeon, heedless of what might be lurking behind it? Do you cast that high-rank spell to take out your current foe, or do you save it for a tougher encounter? Do you risk angering a god by destroying a dangerous artifact? Whatever you’re willing to risk, if you survive the effects of your choices, numerous rewards await you—be they treasure, experience, or the glory that comes from being bold adventurers! While any heroic character can live in the space between risk and reward, we’re on the cusp of introducing two new classes who thrive there.

The daredevil is a risk-taker and explorer who often runs headfirst into dangerous situations, assuming their skills and luck will pull them through. They rely on adrenaline to fuel their daring abilities, which sometimes get them into trouble!

The slayer is a monster-hunter extraordinaire who uses their knowledge of creatures and their tactics to their full advantage. Slayers can take trophies from their kills, which enhance their weapons and armor in unique ways.

We’ve already debuted these two classes during last Friday’s Paizo Live! If you missed that stream, keep an eye on our YouTube channel for it to be uploaded soon.

This playtest will run for almost two months, beginning February 17 (today!) and continuing through April 10, 2026. Our friends at Demiplane are also hosting a free character builder for the daredevil and slayer classes, available now Pathfinder NEXUS!

Playtesting the Daredevil and Slayer in Pathfinder Society

Pathfinder Society has some new rules that allow players to use the playtest classes even after the playtest concludes! The following rules take effect for the daredevil and slayer classes, as well as for any future class playtests. They also apply immediately for the concluded necromancer and runesmith playtests, but not for earlier playtests.

Playtest Characters

Players can create characters using options from any published playtest material. These characters are treated like normal Pathfinder Society characters and must otherwise follow all Character Creation rules in the Guide to Organized Play.

Characters can continue using playtest rules even after the conclusion of the playtest period. Once the final version of a previously playtested class is published, any characters using the playtest version must rebuild to use the new version of the class before their next game. More information on these rebuild rules will be published closer to the final release of the affected classes.

GM Opt-In

Because playtests use additional rules that some GMs might not be comfortable with, each GM must opt-in for playtest characters to be used at their tables. Please consult your GM prior to the game!

Survey Says

Once you’ve had a chance to get a feel for the new classes, please be sure to leave your feedback at the class survey and the open response survey to let us know what you think of them and where you think they could be improved!
